Have Blues Band, Will Travel
The Redhand Blues Band isn’t afraid to travel to a gig. In fact, we love a road trip (or an air trip, train journey, ocean cruise, etc.). Every Tuesday for two years, we rumbled from Johannesburg to the Rhapsody’s in Menlyn, Pretoria to play our 3 sets. We thoroughly enjoyed playing for the appreciative crowd we always found there and we’re glad we could help turn Tuesday into a big night for the venue. Following on our success in Menlyn, our humble Blues outfit entertained Rhapsody’s patrons in Centurion, Woodhill, Polokwane and beyond. Thanks for a lot of memorable nights, Rhapsody’s. We’re grateful for all of the gigs and the great food. And thank you Jimmy for dusting off your Bouzouki and joining us for a jam here and there. What a great vibe! We handed out a lot of cards at those Rhapsody’s gigs and we still get calls to play weddings, birthday parties and corporate events in and around Pretoria as a result of that residency. But I’m talking traveling band here and the 45 minute journey to Menlyn hardly qualifies as a road trip. How about driving to Somerset West, Cape Town to play a wedding only to turn around and come back the next day? That’s a road trip. Or chugging down to Knysna – twice – to play exclusive corporate events for Mercedes. Or hitting the road to Durban for a 50th birthday party or to play the Durban International Blues festival. We even journeyed to Maseru, Lesotho to play for the King! But our best gig/odyssey ever was a Freightliner corporate event we played in Namibia. If memory serves, our chartered flight landed in the tiny, desolate Walvis Bay airport. We then headed north to set up in a natural amphitheater in the dunes outside of Swakopmund. It was like playing on another planet. There were fireworks, thundering trucks and a big sound system through which we rocked the desert. It was EPIC! You get the idea. We’re not afraid to travel. In fact we embrace it. We love that our music has facilitated our exploration of South Africa. We’ve played some seriously beautiful, exotic venues, met a lot of seriously interesting people and had a seriously good time. I know that a lot of the people who have shared those experiences with us would say the same thing. So no matter where you are, if you enjoy great, live music played with passion, contact us. Redhand will be happy to journey to your corner of the world to help make your event one that you and your guests will never forget.
